It was such an honor to host Guy and Joelle Zeller, our KKI International Directors, who flew in from Switzerland to spend time with us and teach on God’s vision for family at SCh Pulawska. They arrived Friday at the Chopin airport in Warsaw and we had a limo waiting on them – we really go out of our way to give the royal treatment around here!
Hahaaa, just kidding, it wasn’t for them but we couldn’t miss a great photo-op! After dropping off their luggage at our home, Greg took them to lunch for kebabs to meet with the pastor from SCh Pulawska and afterwards on to our friends’ home to meet with the families we’ve been working with in Warsaw that have shown desire to become more familiar with King’s Kids values. In the meantime Greg’s mom also arrived by train and joined us for dinner. It was a blessed time with good food and great fellowship. We all shared a bit of what Father has been doing in our lives and families in the past 10 months since all our paths have crossed. It was an amazing time to reflect on His work He has accomplished through us in such a short amount of time – I would have never dreamed all these testimonies that I got to hear over the weekend! God is so faithful to meet us wherever we are if we just let Him 🙂
Saturday morning started off with a relaxed breakfast at home after Joelle caught her shirt on fire while trying to make tea (we just chose to believe she was being anointed with the Holy Spirit!) and then we packed up and headed over to the church for the seminar. We were really excited at the chance to see many friends from around Poland that traveled to Warsaw especially for this teaching and were thrilled that they would get to hear the life transforming message from the Zellers that so dramatically set our life on course for change. Greg and Aniela along with Michał from a well known Christian band in Poland, led us in worship and I got countless remarks from people on how wonderfully Greg played the piano – it must have been a well kept secret!
We about 70 people total at the seminar with great feed back all around. If there were people who didn’t enjoy it, well, they have yet to let us know! Greg and I were reminded of good things too. I had a few highlights – Aniela stood up and shared her story of how she got pregnant at 16 and her struggle to choose to live and to keep the baby (Greg!) during such a difficult political and economic situation in Poland. This was her first time to publicly share her testimony and overcome the shame she’s felt most her life. It was moving for many of us! Thank you, Aniela, for being so brave and transparent! Another highlight was listening to two families come up and share about what God did in their families while on the mission trip with us in Sicily. They were only told about five minutes beforehand that they were going to be asked to share! What great people we know!
What an amazing team that put everything together – Jurek and Lucyna Hakenberg at Pulawska put it all together including our lunch we ate, all the tables set up and taken down, coffee and tea breaks… Thanks to you and your group!
That night Greg and I got spend time with Guy and Joelle in Old Town while Aniela stayed with our girls. We walked along the cobblestone roads, into the market square and found a nice little restaurant with outdoor seating. As we looked at the menu, I joked that Guy could order snails since it was listed as an appetizer. Well, apparently, he really enjoys snails and this happened…
From the shirt catching on fire in the morning to ending the day with snails… well actually we ended the day with a fingernail in Greg’s salad so our whole meal was comped… funny how things work out! Afterwards we took the Zellers to the famous Polish chocolate shop Wedel for a nice dessert. It got the stamp of approval from two Swiss so I think if the Swiss like our chocolate then Wedel must be doing something right!
All in all, we had a lovely weekend with mentors of ours that we got to share with Poland. Guy taught Sunday morning both services at the House of God church in Warsaw. It was so cool to have them here. I know God is doing a revolution in Polish families and it’s amazing to be able to see a glimpse of it. Thank you, Zellers, for serving us here and giving your time and finances to bless Poland. May God richly bless you!
