We have had the privilege to challenge the staff and students at Samuel School to think outside of the box for the annual Easter program! But what is SO cool is although God gave us a vision of what it should be, we offered the opportunity to the students during Monday Bible Hour in January to have a time of listening prayer to hear from God themselves what it should look like. And we arrived at the same vision 🙂 Father is so good and faithful! Children received verses, pictures, and words from Him as God revealed a little bit of what He wants to do Tuesday, March 26th!
We originally thought the program would be in front of the school building where we rent space for classes. The decision had to be voted on by the school board of the public school that owns the building. Unfortunately they did not agree (for reasons unknown) and we were stuck without a location just two weeks before the day of the event! So on Friday, just 10 days until the program, our school principle found a strong possible location at the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy – Mercy home for the elderly. The reverend mother called the school on Monday to go over the details and gave the final OK for us to be there! We are so excited the link generations with the older community as it is something God told us would be key when we came to Warsaw! He is continuing to open doors just when we think they’ve been closed.
So what has staff and students been preparing for Easter? Well it will take the form of a neighborhood block party with buffet tables of food and drinks while we serve our neighbors and bless them with songs, a short play, and an easter egg hunt (this is not normal in Poland)! It will have a bit of American flare with the plastic eggs full of candy and bible verses hidden among the
snow grass. But we’ll also include Polish tradition and have a few stations of the cross where there’s a time of meditation on what Jesus has done for us. Different classes of schools have prepared songs, a play, art… and all will get the chance to share with the neighbors. This is the first “outreach” of its kind from Samuel School and the neighbors are already abuzz with excitement to see what the “praying children” have planned! (If you remember, we took the students out before Christmas to give out cards and pray for people they met on the street… this is apparently still talked about!) It should be a lot of fun for everyone involved. The staff is being stretched out of their comfort zone in doing something new and not exactly knowing what to expect, but generally we have such a sense of expectancy that good things are going to happen, doors will be opened, and God will be there!!! Please pray with us for TRANSFORMATION (this words keeps coming up in our prayers) in the lives of everyone involved: students, teachers, neighbors, the elderly, the sisters…
But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:16-18
Take care, friends! We will be back with more on the Easter adventure!
